House - internal refurbishment
Notting Hill, W11 London
The project was for a complete refurbishment of a large house in Notting Hill, London. The existing house, located in a conservation area, required a number of consultations with the planners for the new proposals, which were limited to internal rather than external alterations due to its listed status.
The house has been re-organised at all levels to provide a programme of differing functions to suit the family. A large reception room is provided upon arrival at ground floor level with a separate home office to the front aspect.
The introduction of a new two story steel staircase provides direct access to the lower ground floor and the large open kitchen and dining area allowing vistas on the external decked terrace area. In addition at this level, a large guest bedroom is provided with new storage facilities and a private bathroom.
Upper levels are accessed through the existing refurbished staircases with the first floor dedicated to the master bedroom with a complimentary walk in dressing area and bathroom. The second and third levels provide additional large bedrooms all with new continuous full height storage facilities.
The original features of the house have been kept to contrast with the minimal character of the architectural interventions. A digital home control system is introduced to allow a more energy efficient solution for the refurbished building.
The project was initiated and developed until the detailed design stage.
